1. About this policy

Wari uses a limited number of cookies and browser storage mechanisms to provide essential functionality and, in some cases, to personalize your experience.

Wari does not currently use cookies or similar tracking technologies for advertising, behavioral profiling, or cross-site tracking.

This page explains what Wari stores or accesses on your device and why.

2. What are cookies and local storage?

Cookies are small pieces of information stored on your device by a website and sent back to the website when you interact with it.

Local Storage is a browser storage mechanism that allows a website to store information directly on your device. Unlike a cookie, information stored in Local Storage is not automatically sent to Wari's servers with each request.

Wari uses both types of browser storage for different purposes.

3. Essential authentication cookies

When you sign in to Wari, authentication and session cookies are used to maintain your authenticated session.

These cookies allow Wari to:

• recognize your authenticated session;
• keep you signed in while your session is valid;
• protect your account;
• maintain the security of the authentication mechanism.

These cookies are strictly necessary to provide the account and authentication service you have requested.

They are therefore used without requiring prior consent under the applicable rules governing cookies and similar technologies. The CNIL specifically identifies authentication and authentication-security cookies among the types of trackers that may be exempt from prior consent when they are strictly necessary to the requested service.

Authentication sessions are automatically purged from Wari's systems after the associated session token expires, according to the retention rules described in our Privacy Policy.

4. Local personalization

Wari uses Local Storage to remember a limited amount of information that helps personalize the Homepage.

This may include:

• emotions you have interacted with;
• experiences you have interacted with;
• the last quote you viewed.

This information remains entirely on your device.

It is:

• not stored in Wari's database;
• not associated with your Wari account;
• not transmitted to Wari's servers;
• not used for advertising or behavioral profiling.

Why does Wari use this storage?

This storage allows Wari to adapt the Homepage to your recent interactions without creating a server-side profile about you.

The personalization of the Wari Homepage is an intrinsic and expected part of the discovery experience provided by Wari from the first visit. It is not an additional or optional convenience feature added separately from the service: it is a constitutive element of how Wari's discovery experience works.

On this basis, Wari considers this Local Storage to fall within the exemption from prior consent applicable to user-interface personalization that is intrinsic and expected to the service, as recognized by the CNIL under Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act.

No consent toggle or separate consent action is therefore required for this functionality.

The following safeguards apply:

• the information remains exclusively on your device;
• it is never associated with your Wari account;
• it is never transmitted to Wari's servers;
• it is not used for advertising or behavioral profiling;
• it is automatically purged 6 months after your last interaction.

You can also remove this information at any time by clearing the Local Storage or site data for Wari in your browser.

5. Location data is not stored

Wari's Around Me feature uses your browser's geolocation capability when you explicitly choose to use it.

Your precise location:

• is held temporarily in browser memory;
• is not stored in cookies;
• is not stored in Local Storage;
• is not stored in Session Storage;
• is not stored in Wari's database;
• is not associated with your Wari account.

Your location is used locally to provide nearby discovery features and is never persisted by Wari.

Your browser may retain your permission choice for location access. This permission is controlled by your browser and operating system, not by Wari's storage mechanisms.

6. What Wari does not use

Wari does not currently use cookies or similar technologies for:

• targeted advertising;
• behavioral advertising;
• cross-site tracking;
• social media tracking;
• selling or sharing browsing activity with advertising networks;
• creating advertising profiles;
• personalized advertising.

Wari uses Vercel Web Analytics to measure aggregate site usage. This analytics service does not use cookies or persistent identifiers — see Section 7 below for details.

7. Third-party services

Wari uses third-party services such as Google, Mapbox, Vercel, Neon, and Resend to operate different parts of the service.

These services do not currently place third-party cookies or other tracking technologies on your device through Wari.

Their interaction with Wari works through different technical mechanisms, including:

• Mapbox — technical requests required to load and display map tiles and map content;
• Vercel — hosting and application infrastructure, handled through technical server and network requests;
• Vercel Web Analytics — anonymized, aggregated page-view counts. This service does not use cookies or persistent identifiers. To distinguish visits, it may briefly process a temporary hash derived from technical request information, automatically discarded within 24 hours and never stored by Wari;
• Neon — database infrastructure used by Wari's servers and not directly exposed as browser storage;
• Resend — transactional email delivery for Magic Links;
• Google — authentication when you choose to sign in with Google.

The use of these services does not, by itself, mean that they place cookies or similar trackers in your browser through Wari.

8. Managing cookies and Local Storage

You can manage or delete cookies and Local Storage through your browser settings.

You can generally:

• delete stored site data;
• block cookies;
• restrict storage;
• clear Local Storage;
• manage permissions granted to websites.

Blocking or deleting essential authentication cookies may prevent you from signing in to Wari or maintaining an authenticated session.

Deleting Local Storage may remove your local Homepage personalization.

Your browser's controls vary depending on the browser and device you use.

No preference center

Wari does not currently provide a dedicated cookie or privacy preference center.

This is because the cookies currently used by Wari are essential authentication cookies, while the only non-essential browser storage currently used by Wari is the Local Storage described in Section 4, which is managed directly by you through your browser's settings.

No separate Wari interface is therefore currently required to manage these storage mechanisms.

If Wari introduces non-essential cookies or trackers requiring consent in the future, this policy and the way users manage their preferences will be updated accordingly.

9. Changes to this policy

Wari may update this policy when the technologies used by the service change or when applicable legal requirements change.

When changes are made, the Last updated date at the top of this page will be updated.

For significant changes concerning consent or the use of non-essential cookies or trackers, Wari will provide any additional information or obtain consent where required by applicable law.
